THE Lunar New Year 2025 in Pokémon Go celebrates the Year of the Snake between the days January 29th and February 2nd. The event brings the return of lucky exchanges with increased frequency and new research tasks, including missions that offer PokéCoins as a reward.
Lunar New Year 2025 Temporary Research
There are two Timed Research available during the event: one free and one premium, the latter purchased for US$ 2 or equivalent value in local currency.
Free – Year of the Snake
To complete this research, players must follow Routes and capture Pokémon. The main reward is Zygarde Cells, but it will only be possible to redeem them if the player has less than 250 units stored.
- Walk 1 km following a Route → Zygarde Cell x1
- Walk 2 km following a Route → Zygarde Cell x1
- Catch 10 Pokémon by following a Route → Zygarde Cell x1
- Follow a Route → Zygarde Cell x1
- Complete all tasks → 5,000 XP, 2,000 Stardust, Zygarde Cells x6
Premium
This mission involves capturing Ekans and Nosepass in large quantity, divided into two steps.
🔹 Step 1
- Catch 12 Pokémon → Ekans
- Catch 12 Pokémon → Nosepass
- Catch 24 Pokémon → Ekans
- Catch 24 Pokémon → Nosepass
- Catch 36 Pokémon → Ekans
- Catch 36 Pokémon → Nosepass
- Final reward: 4,000 XP, 2,000 Stardust, 2 Lucky Eggs
🔹 Step 2
- Same missions as the previous step
- Final reward: 8,000 XP, 4,000 Stardust, 1 Incubator
Lunar New Year 2025 Field Research
These quests are earned by spinning PokéStops and can be completed at any time, even after the event ends.
- Catch 12 Pokémon → Darumaka, Dratini, Magikarp or Voltorb
- Catch 6 Pokémon by following a Route → 1,200 Stardust
- Explore 2 km → 600 Stardust
Daily PokéCoin Searches
During the event, players will receive a special mission per day, with rewards in PokéCoins. To do this, it is necessary to have a maximum of three active Field Research. These coins do not affect the daily limit obtained in Gyms.
- Catch 3 Pokémon → 5 PokéCoins
- Enhance a Pokémon 3 times → 5 PokéCoins
- Spin 3 PokéStops or Gyms → 5 PokéCoins
- Transfer 10 Pokémon → 5 PokéCoins
- Send a Gift to a Friend → 5 PokéCoins
- Catch 25 Pokémon → 25 PokéCoins
Collection Challenge
Just like Temporary Surveys, the Collection Challenge must be completed before the event closes at 8pm on February 2nd. Players must capture the following Pokémon:

✅ Darumaka (wild, Field Research)
💰 Final reward: 6,000 Stardust
