GameChat enables new ways to play socially, all together
With the new GameChat*2 online feature, players can play and chat as if they’re all in the same room, even when they’re far apart. Whether it’s to share a victory or just want to say hi, GameChat makes it feel like you’re on the same couch as your online friends from around the world. Once GameChat is launched, players can chat with friends whenever they want by pressing the C Button on the right Joy-Con 2 controller. The console’s built-in microphone can be used to voice chat while playing with up to 11 other people in different locations. Up to four friends can share their screen, and if they connect a compatible USB-C camera, such as the Nintendo Switch 2 Camera (available separately), they can also use video chat to see each other’s faces as they cheer, scream or cry while playing. More friends can join the chat, but they’ll only be able to use audio. Until the end of March 2026, anyone without a Nintendo Switch Online membership will be able to use GameChat. After this date, you will need to subscribe to Nintendo Switch Online.
When you start a GameChat session, you will be able to invite people from your friends list. Safety features are included to help players have a safe chat experience, such as the ability to report someone in a chat session. Additionally, Nintendo recognizes the important role that parents and legal guardians play in children’s online experiences, so children under the age of 16 will need to have parental or legal guardian approval to use GameChat through an updated version of the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app.

A large, vivid screen that allows for smoother motion expression
Nintendo Switch 2 features a built-in 7.9-inch LCD screen that displays Full HD 1080p images while maintaining the same thinness as Nintendo Switch. No matter where you are, Nintendo Switch 2 offers vivid and detailed gaming experiences, as well as graphics that can convey the characters’ movements and their various facial expressions.
Joy-Con 2 controllers snap into place on the console with a “click”
The Joy-Con 2, a newly designed controller for Nintendo Switch 2, attaches magnetically to the Nintendo Switch 2 console. Additionally, both Joy-Con 2 controllers can be used as a mouse by sliding them across a surface such as a table or your lap. They can be used in a variety of ways, including in games where aiming is required.
The angle of the new stand on the back of the Nintendo Switch 2 console can be freely adjusted, so players can find the right position. While the Nintendo Switch has a USB-C port on the bottom of the console, the Nintendo Switch 2 also has a USB-C port on the top, making it possible for players to use the included AC adapter to charge the console while playing in tabletop mode. It is also possible to connect a compatible USB-C camera, such as the Nintendo Switch 2 camera (available separately), to enjoy video chat in GameChat.
Powerful processing speed and graphics performance
Nintendo Switch 2 has significantly improved CPU and GPU performance over Nintendo Switch, resulting in faster processing speeds and enabling new, visually enhanced gaming experiences. It also makes it possible to create games with more detailed graphics and shorter loading times.
On Nintendo Switch 2, sound quality is more natural and clear, with a better balance between frequencies. When using handheld and semi-handheld modes, players will be able to enjoy games with even more immersive three-dimensional sound.
The Nintendo Switch 2 has 256 GB of internal storage, which stores digital games and save data, eight times more than the Nintendo Switch. To expand the storage, the Nintendo Switch 2 uses only microSD Express cards, which have a faster data read speed than previous microSD models.
Games for Nintendo Switch 2 are also compatible with Nintendo Switch 2
Nintendo Switch 2 supports Nintendo Switch 2 games, as well as compatible physical and digital games released for Nintendo Switch. Some Nintendo Switch titles may not be fully or partially compatible with Nintendo Switch 2. Joy-Con controllers and Nintendo Switch peripherals, such as the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, can also be used with Nintendo Switch 2 when paired with the console. For more information about compatibility with Nintendo Switch games and accessories, please visit the Nintendo website.
By connecting the Nintendo Switch 2 dock to a TV, users can stream video at resolutions up to 4K to compatible games and TVs.
With GameShare, a new feature on Nintendo Switch 2, players can share and play the same game with others who don’t have it. If a person has a Nintendo Switch 2 console and a GameShare-compatible game, they can invite others to temporarily play the same game together via local play on their Nintendo Switch 2 console or Nintendo Switch. Between Nintendo Switch 2 consoles, GameShare can also be used in conjunction with GameChat when playing online. This allows players to chat with others while playing the same game.

Virtual game cards bring advantages to digital games
With Virtual Game Cards, players can easily manage their digital games, play on two different consoles, or even lend or borrow games. The Virtual Game Card menu displays all digital games purchased with a user's Nintendo Account, making it easy to access games and transfer them between consoles. Once a Virtual Game Card is loaded onto a console, it can be used even if the console is not connected to the Internet, and other users on that console can also use it. Additionally, digital games can be lent and borrowed between members of the same Nintendo Account family group as Virtual Game Cards via local wireless communication.
Nintendo Switch Online
Nintendo Switch Online will be available on Nintendo Switch 2. On Nintendo Switch 2, players with a Nintendo Switch Online membership will be able to use features such as GameChat in addition to existing online features. For a limited time, all Nintendo Switch 2 owners can access GameChat through a welcome offer, which will be available until March 31, 2026. Additionally, Nintendo Switch 2 owners will also be able to access Nintendo GameCube – Nintendo Classics, which will be available from day one of the console’s launch. Players with a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership and a Nintendo Switch 2 console will be able to access a growing collection of Nintendo GameCube games with sharper image quality and higher resolution than the original releases. The classics available at launch will include: F-ZERO GX, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and SOULCALIBUR II.
Variety of accessibility features
In addition to the accessibility features already available on Nintendo Switch to accommodate a wide range of play styles, Nintendo Switch 2 offers several new accessibility options, including the ability to adjust font size, enable on-screen text reading (not available in Portuguese) and use text-to-speech features in GameChat (not available in Portuguese).
With the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app, parents or guardians can monitor their children’s use of the console by using their mobile devices to see what types of games they are playing or set the amount of time the console can be used each day. With GameChat, children under the age of 16 will need to obtain parental or guardian approval in the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app to start a chat, making it possible for parents or guardians to manage their children’s chat experience safely.
